Known hypersensitivity to gliclazide or to any of the excipients of Diamicron MR, to other medicines of the same group (sulfonylureas) and sulfonamides; insulin-dependent diabetes (type 1); diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic precoma and coma; severe renal or hepatic insufficiency (in these cases, the use of insulin is recommended); treatment with miconazole (see Interactions).
It is generally inadvisable to combine Diamicron MR with phenylbutazone, danazol and alcohol (see Interactions).
Use in Lactation: It is not known whether gliclazide or its metabolites are excreted in breast milk. Given the risk of neonatal hypoglycaemia, Diamicron MR is contraindicated in breastfeeding mother.
